Powering up applications with Reactor
James Harton
James Harton, Principal Consultant at Alembic and core member of the Ash team, brings his extensive experience as the author of Reactor, Ash Authentication, and numerous other libraries in the Elixir ecosystem. His talk will demonstrate how Reactor's graph-driven asynchrony can dramatically improve Nerves application startup times.
James will guide attendees through using Reactor as a graph-powered saga runner to streamline critical startup processes including migrations, secret provisioning, and OTP application initialization. This isn't just theory—expect practical demonstrations that show Reactor working with files and replacing standard Nerves application startup patterns.
Smarter Apps with Ash and the Model Context Protocol
Josh Price
As Alembic's Technical Director and founder, Josh Price is a polyglot developer passionate about modern software development approaches. His talk explores the exciting intersection of Ash Framework's introspection capabilities with GenAI and large language models.
Josh will unveil how Anthropic's new Model Context Protocol creates unprecedented possibilities in application development, transforming static interfaces into intelligent conversational partners. Attendees will discover how this bidirectional API enables seamless LLM integration, opening doors to fundamentally more intelligent and useful applications.
A Letter From Ourselves
Zach Daniel
Zach Daniel, creator of the Ash Framework and Principal Platform Engineer at Alembic, brings a decade of production Elixir experience to this unique presentation. Known for his contributions to declarative design and the open source community, Zach promises a session unlike any other.
This isn't your typical feature announcement or roadmap presentation. Instead, expect a creative blend of retrospective and speculative fiction that examines Elixir's evolution through an unexpected lens. With familiar concepts in unfamiliar contexts, and predictions that may challenge your perspective on the language's trajectory, this talk promises to be both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Why This Matters
These talks represent more than just technical presentations—they showcase the innovative thinking that drives Alembic's approach to building ambitious applications. From optimizing embedded systems to creating AI-powered interfaces and reimagining how we think about language evolution, our team is at the forefront of pushing Elixir's boundaries.
About Goatmire and NervesConf EU
Goatmire is a small-scale Elixir conference put together for the Elixir programming community by the Underjord team. By Elixir enthusiasts for Elixir enthusiasts. The event will be run by a small not-for-profit. Influenced by smaller flavorful events like GigCity Elixir, The Big Elixir and EMPEX, this is Sweden's first Elixir conference.
NervesConf EU 2025 will be Europe's very first NervesConf, a one day conference featuring speakers from around the Nerves community.
